Ed Cherry (Edgar Franklin Cherry) was born on July 6, 1913 in Wellington, Texas. After going to high school at Shamrock (TX), Cherry attended Amarillo JC and Hardin-Simmons University. Cherry made his professional debut in the NFL in 1938 with the Chicago Cardinals. He played for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago Cardinals over the course of his 2 year career.

Most people believe that 1938 was Ed Cherry's best year.
