Ed Charles (Edwin Douglas Charles) was born on April 29, 1933 in Daytona Beach, Florida. He made his Major League debut on April 11, 1962 for the Kansas City Athletics. In 1962, his rookie year, he hit .288 with 17 home runs and 74 RBI. Charles played for the Kansas City Athletics and New York Mets over the course of his 8 year career.

Most people believe that Ed Charles's best season was 1962, when he slugged 17 home runs, hit for a .288 average and knocked in 74 runs.
