Ed Cartwright (Edward Charles Cartwright) was born on October 6, 1859 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. He made his Major League debut on July 10, 1890 for the St. Louis Browns. In 1890, his rookie year, he hit .300 with 8 home runs and 60 RBI. Cartwright played for the St. Louis Browns and Washington Senators over the course of his 5 year career.

There is some disagreement on what was Ed Cartwright's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1894, when he stole 31 bases, hit for a .294 average and knocked in 106 runs. However, others believe that it was 1895, when he stole 50 bases, hit for a .331 average and knocked in 90 runs.
