Born on February 7, 1899 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Earl Whitehill (Earl Oliver Whitehill) played for the Detroit Tigers, Washington Senators, Cleveland Indians and Chicago Cubs over the course of his 17 year career. Whitehill broke into the bigs on September 15, 1923 with the Detroit Tigers, and put up a 3.86 ERA in 233 innings pitched in 1924, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Earl Whitehill's best season was 1933, when he posted a 3.33 ERA, won 22 games and struck out 96 batters.
