Born on April 2, 1919 in Redmond, Washington, Earl Johnson (Earl Douglas Johnson) played for the Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers over the course of his 8 year career. Johnson broke into the bigs on July 20, 1940 with the Boston Red Sox, and put up a 4.09 ERA in 70.1 innings pitched in 1940, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Earl Johnson's best season was 1947, when he posted a 2.97 ERA, won 12 games and struck out 65 batters.
