Born on July 14, 1935 in Slab Fork, West Virginia, Earl Francis (Earl Coleman Francis) played for the Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals over the course of his 6 year career. Francis broke into the bigs on June 30, 1960 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and put up a 4.21 ERA in 102.2 innings pitched in 1961, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Earl Francis's best season was 1962, when he posted a 3.07 ERA and struck out 121 batters.
