Eagles Lock Up Shawn Andrews Through 2015

A 10-year contract is pretty huge, has there been a longer one than this before? Wouldn't you be gutted if he had a dip in form this year, with the security of a contract behind him?

Many people said the same things about Sheppard and Brown, and they've worked out. Reid is the master of offensive line talent, this move makes sense. This risk makes sense. Otherwise they would have had to pay very big money for a lineman on top of his game, but towards the decline. They've got a young core right now and they got room the spare. This won't be the last signing of a young guy...

2006-2015 is ten seasons... The writer said "seven-year extension" on what is presumably his current three year contract. Either that or it wasn't an extension.

That and NFL contracts lack a lot of security. The NFL is the only major U.S. sport where contracts are not guaranteed. The team will just cut you and throw you to the dogs.

But considering he has a ten-year contract, won't that give them an enormous cap penalty?

The signing bonus will be pro-rated out over 7 years. In addition, the average base pay is likely not to great. The Eagles are well known to sign good young players to long-term deals before the hit their primes.

Fair enough... I use the same tactic on Madden 2005. Every year, if it's cheaper, I sign players to seven-year deals. My entire roster has got at least a four-year deal, even a 40yo Ryan Longwell!

Andrews reported playing last season in the 380's. He was officially listed at 340 pounds.

My fault. allow me to correct. He signed a seven year extentsion. Its not a true 10 year contract, but he will finish his 3 and then take the 7. This makes sense for everyone, andrews gets security and so do the eagles, at a low price.
