Anybody watch The Contender on ESPN last night? I really enjoyed it. If ESPN won't give us Playmakers again -- I'll take a boxing show. And I like it much better without Stallone. Anybody else have any thoughts on ESPN's Original Entertainment??
http://viva-voce.blogspot.com (original blog post) Well, if they aren't gonna give us Playmakers at least they were smart enough to pick up The Contender. I got to see my boyfriend, last year's winner, Sergio Mora -- cute! And maybe he will show up all season as Sugar Ray Leonard's sidekick since Sly Stallone isn't there. Speaking of, I have to say, the show is much more authentic without Stallone. I like him and all, but he isn't a boxer, he's an actor. His presence just gave it a Hollywood feel. It would be like Meryl Streep being on Project Runway because she played a fashion maven in a movie. Anyway, the fights were awesome. The biggest trash talker -- Michael Clark -- lost the first fight to a guy he railed on. Which is a shame but you could kinda see it coming. And yeah, Cornelius Bundrage (what a name) did look janky in sparring, but he didn't come fight time. Nice work. I'm not sure he's the winner of the whole thing, but he earned a lot of respect by sending the mouth home early. And then Rudy Cisneros lost probably because he was just out of shape -- he had to drop 9 lbs. in less than 24 hours. Yikes. I love this show. Thanks for not giving up on it!!!!
