Born on September 13, 1893 in Alameda, California, Dutch Ruether (Walter Henry Ruether) played for the Cincinnati Reds, Chicago Cubs, Brooklyn Robins, Washington Senators and New York Yankees over the course of his 11 year career. Ruether broke into the bigs on April 13, 1917 with the Cincinnati Reds, and put up a 3.00 ERA in 72 innings pitched in 1917, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Dutch Ruether's best season was 1919, when he posted a 1.82 ERA, won 19 games and struck out 78 batters.
