Dunga Makes Callup For Qually Debut

Brazilian national team coach Dunga made the announcement of the 22-man squad that will take part in the first two matches of the CONMEBOL qualifiers for South Africa 2010 that will start on October 13th.    The five-time world champions will make their debut at El Campín in Bogota when they face Colombia on the weekend of the 13th and then head home to host Ecuador at the historic Maracanã.

The only two domestic side players that he called up were São Paulo’s Alex Silva and Santos’ Kleber.  There was also talk of him calling up legendary São Paulo goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni, but that did not happen.  He did mention throughout the summer and  in the past couple of weeks that he was planning on calling up the 34-year-old and possibly giving him a chance to earn the starting position.

Throughout the summer it was being talked throughout Brazil that Ceni should be the top selection in his position- over any of the European goalkeepers.

The verdeamarelha come in as prohibited favorites along with Argentina to take the top two places in this region and qualify for South Africa 2010.  Dunga will call up a mostly European-based side that he used during this summer’s Copa América title run and will most likely rotate them in various positions as per his needs and matchup in these respective matches.

Goalkeepers Doni (AS Roma- ITA) Julio César (Inter-ITA)

Defenders Maicon (Inter-ITA) Daniel Alves (Sevilla FC- ESP) Juan (AS Roma- ITA) Lucio (Bayer München-GER) Alex Silva (São Paulo FC) Alex (Chelsea-ENG)
