Duke Snider (Edwin Donald Snider) was born on September 19, 1926 in Los Angeles, California. He made his Major League debut on April 17, 1947 for the Brooklyn Dodgers. In 1948, his rookie year, he hit .244 with 5 home runs and 21 RBI. Snider played for the Brooklyn Dodgers, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets and San Francisco Giants over the course of his 18 year career.

Most people believe that Duke Snider's best season was 1953, when he slugged 42 home runs, hit for a .336 average and knocked in 126 runs.

One of a handful of players to hit 40 or more home runs in 5 consecutive seasons [1953-1957].

Elected to the Hall of Fame in 1980.
