Duke Lacrosse: The True Colors Are Coming Out

by Allan.Woodstrom

The three Duke Lacrosse players falsely accused of rape are suing the city of Durham for $30 million. The legal team of the three Lacrosse players is stressing that the civil settlement they are seeking must include several changes to the state’s legal process.

I’m sorry, but I’m not buying that the changes in the legal process carry the same amount of weight as the $10 million for each of the accused. I’d like to see how they justify that amount. I’ve been following this case by default, since it broke and I still couldn’t tell you the names of the players involved. Heck, I couldn’t tell you the name of one Lacrosse player on any team, anywhere.

It just makes me sick, time and time again, as greed seems to be dictating everything about this case. Albeit, the players were in the most horrible of circumstances, part of that was brought on by them selves, when they thought it was a great idea to hire strippers. This latest lawsuit makes me feel like there is no victim here anymore.

Honestly, these guys are going to have this fiasco attached to them for the rest of their lives. Who knows how it's actually affected their family lives, and the effects on their professional lives could also continue for years to come. Don't forget, Nifong actually withheld evidence from the case, and as the state district attorney, he was acting on behalf of the state. The problem in the case was an enormous rush for a verdict of guilty, and in the end we just watched three promising young men get their lives virtually ruined for committing no crime. The state is accountable here and those players deserve every dime they can get out of the case against them.

So what is the proper monetary value for having the State's representative (the DA) falsely accuse three college students of a crime and fabricate a case against them? Are they not entitled to monetary compensation for the crimes that were committed against them?

I can't even venture to guess at this one. Who's to say how much three ruined reputations are worth, but the people themselves I suppose?

Everyone knows they're essentially bidding high...they negotiate and meet in the middle...moreover even if they don't settle, the judge will probably give them less...

As far as monetary value...there's no way to know...so why not go big and see waht you come back with...

I agree, its a lot of money...

Fair point. But to say that they're no longer victims, as the article does. Unacceptable.

You are both correct. And they will settle. NC just wants this done with.

Hiring strippers (a legal activity) is somehow "bringing on" false prosecution? They were asking for it?
