Ducks look dominant, beat the Stars 4-1

On Wednesday Night, the Dallas Stars fell to the Anaheim Ducks 4-1 at the Honda Center. Ducks forward Corey Perry scored two goals including the game winner and JS Giguere made 26 saves, making an easy night for the home team.

In the first two periods, Anaheim scored the first goals of each of the first two periods, allowing the Ducks to set the tone in a game where they showed why they are the best team in the league.

Only a Stu Barnes tip-in goal at the 14:41 mark of the 1st period kept this game from developing into a shutout, as Barnes re-directed a Jaroslav Modry slap shot into the back of the Ducks net...

Unfortunately, the sting of this loss could be duplicated tonight as well, as the Stars take their act to San Jose tonight.

Notes:

Mighty Once Again:

The Ducks dropped the "Mighty" from their name in the offseason, but might have their best team in franchise history. Anaheim entered Wednesday's Game with the NHL's best record, posting their 27th victory of the season over the visiting Stars.

In picking up their 60th point in the standings thanks to their victory over Dallas, they set setting a pace that could be impossible to catch in the Western Conference.

If the Ducks continue their amazing season, they are projected to earn 133 points through the 82 game season....

If Anaheim gains 133 points, there's no way any team catches up with them and that will help the Ducks earn Home Ice For the Entire Playoffs.

Mighty Once Again II:

-Ducks won the special teams battle on Wednesday Night 1-0, capping off a night where the home team just finished off the Stars.

-Ducks are #1 in the NHL in Goals For and Top 10 in Goals Allowed

-Ducks are #1 in the NHL in Fighting Majors and have two players in the Top 10 (O'Brien, Parros) in Fighting Majors. Yet, the fight of Wednesday Night was fought by Shawn Thornton, who took on Matthew Barnaby and according to Hockeyfights.com, won it, hitting Barnaby with a few bombs. Thus, they beat your team on the scoresheet and beat you up physically, making it an embarrassing night for anyone taking on the Ducks....

Stars struggling again:

-Mike Modano is still dealing with an injury that now has him on Injured Reserve, making a quick return in doubt.

-Stars have scored two or fewer goals in three of their past five games.....

-Stars goaltenders have given up 18 goals in their last five games or 4.5 goals allowed in their last five games....

-With the Stars facing San Jose tonight, the trend could continue (Few Goals Scored For, Many Goals Allowed) as Joe Thornton and Jonathan Cheechoo might feast on the Stars are the sudden inability to defend their net......

-NHL Notes:

-The Write-In Candidate, Rory Fitzpatrick might be making a trip to Dallas for the All-Star Game as he now is 2nd in votes received for Western Conference Defenseman.

Fitzpatrick, receives multiple votes from a Buffalo, N.Y. Superfan and a Passionate Fan Base in Vancouver wants to see a man with no goals, no assists and a -1 in Dallas during the All-Star Game.....

If Fitzpatrick makes the All-Star Game, you could see the NHL changing the selection process to what the NFL does, where the fans, players and coaches equally have a say in the process, eliminating any chances for a huge fan following to push a player with less then stellar stats into the league's showcase case........

-Look out Kansas City, Sidney Crosby may be coming to you......

The company that made the bid to build an arena next to a casino in Pittsburgh had their bid rejected..... The Penguins play in the oldest arena in the NHL will have their lease at Mellon Arena expires this summer...

If the Penguins stay in the Steel City, it will only happen if another owner comes up with a plan to not only buy the team, but build an arena that will be privately financed, as the local government has declined to support the Penguins and Local Voters have voted down proposals for tax raises to build a new arena.

So, with Relocation becoming another buzz word for the Penguins, other cities will be coveting the franchise with the 1-2 punch of Crosby and Evegeni Malkin. Yet, Kansas City will be the most likely market, as AEG wants to bring in an NHL team in Kansas City when they finish construction of a new arena to the area of Chiefs, Royals and Wizards.
