I'm not usually a conformist by trade. But I'm intrigued by this 25-man challenge trend started by the Shark. So I'll throw my hat in the ring. I tried to differentiate from the other roster challenges as best as I can.
SS: Jose Reyes- Batting average near .300, draws a lot of walks and steals 40+ bases, Ideal leadoff man.
DH: David Ortiz- Is there anybody more clutch in the MLB right now? If the term walkoff HR appears in the Webster's dictionary, there would be a picture of Ortiz jumping into the arms of waiting teammates at home plate.
1B: Lance Berkman- Solid #3 hitter. Big-Time Rbi guy.
2B: Dan Uggla- This kid has a bright future for the Marlins. Had to use a U and Chase Utley was on many other of the challenge teams. I feel he's going to really break out in the next year or two, so I'll get him while he's young.
3B: David Wright- The Reyes-Wright connection lives on!
RF: Vladimir Guerrero- No brainer here. Great outfielder with a great arm who can hit a ton.
CF: Andruw Jones- Quietly putting together a great career for himself. One of the best 2-way players in the game.
LF: Carl Crawford- Over .300 with pure speed and one of the more underrated players in the MLB. Just under the radar in Tampa Bay.
C: Jason Varitek- Don't get me wrong, Joe Mauer's having an unreal year. But Varitek is clutch and brings leadership and other intangibles that hold a team together.
SP: Barry Zito- Finally, a Z! And a lefty at that. SP: Curt Schilling- Veteran pitcher who's still getting the job done. SP: Francisco Liriano- Another awesome lefty who's 22 and has years of success ahead of him. SP: Roy Halladay- Another Cy-Young Caliber year for Halladay. SP: Scott Kazmir- Breakout player who Omar let get away.
CL- Jonathan Papelbon- Unreal closer for the Red Sox. Could be the Mo Rivera of the future.
BP- Jason Isringhausen- Next in line behind Papelbon at closer. Fills the I spot.
BP- Chad Qualls- A reliable pitcher deep in the Astros Bullpen and more importantly, a Q.
BP- Kyle Farnsworth- An F for Farnsworth who can be a reliable setup man.
BP- Tyler Yates- Needed the Y and Yates seems like a budding young pitcher for Atlanta who improved with each appearance on the mound.
Backups:
C- Joe Mauer- Come on, I wasn't going to leave the AL batting leader off the team.
OF- Jermaine Dye- Clutch hitting and instant HR power off of the bench.
OF- Trot Nixon- Reliable defense and can be used in a versatile manner in the batting order.
OF- Jim Edmonds- Unbelievable Center Fielder who fills the highlight reels with his plays in CF. Blue collar-player.
IF- Mark Teixeira- Had to pull this T out of the closet to fill first base, I would have put Thome, but he's primarily a DH.
IF- Edgardo Alfonzo- Strictly for the defense he gives. He was recently polled as the best 2nd baseman in Mets history. If he hits like he did in his prime, it would be an added bonus. Not to mention he could play SS, 2B and 3B.
I felt like i just finished a marathon.........
