PENNIES PLEDGED PER COMMENT

Plus: .6 cents and one ounce of food per comment, and other various and sundry change if we hit certain benchmarks!
(update this)

A Super Bowl challenge to ALL Users, ALL Anonymous Fanatics and Anyone else you can get to hop on the 'Chair!!! As you may know (or could figure out REAL easily) Manny Stiles a.k.a "Dr. Commento" always seems to have a lot to say. Too much even. League Leader in Comments, useless comments, comments that would be better left untyped, and the like...

So Dr. Commento is presenting a challenge to EVERY ArmchairGM user and even to the Anonymous Fanatics as well. Super Bowl Sunday will probably be a busy day on the 'Chair. There's bound to be several running blogs, even one running blog focused directly on the Commercials during the TV coverage (hosted by yours truly)

Dr Commento's Challenge

I want to have as many users pledge to join me in the First (Will-Be-)Annual Comment for Charity Event hosted by the ArmchairGM Community. It's easy to join: For every comment posted on the site during Sunday pledge to donate $.01 to a local charity of your choice.

  • You choose the charity.
  • Take the final value = (your pledge) x (Total Number of Comments on Sunday) to them personally at your own leisure.
  • Take credit
    • personally and get tax credits,
    • give anonymously (you can even wear a question mark bag over your head)
    • or give on behalf of ArmchairGM.com!
  • Feel good afterwards.

It's THAT simple!

While you're watching the Super Bowl, billions of people could potentially be benefitting from your opinions
While you're watching the Super Bowl, billions of people could potentially be benefitting from your opinions

I don't know what the record is for comments on the site for one day is, but I'm pretty sure Sunday will break the record. Currently we're averaging between 100-300 comments on a good day. One Super Bowl thread will match and surpass that for sure... (Maybe we should do a separate running blog for each quarter?!?!)

Think about it, for every 1,000 comments made all you have to donate is ten measly bucks. You would have wasted the sawbuck anyway, let someone benefit that probably won't be watching the game and let sports-oriented clap trap actually MEAN something useful for once!

I will personally choose a local homeless shelter and food bank.

I challenge you to join me

Put your user name in the comments, add the amount per comment you'll pledge and charity name if you want, but you don't have to.

Feeling REALLY charitable? Make it 5 or 10 cents per comments. Don't know what to do with your money? Donate a dollar or more per comment. It's up to you!

Even if you're dead broke, make it a half a cent per comment or if you're allowance isn't all that big, go for 1/4 cent per comment. Or bust open that piggy bank full of change!

It takes very little, it benefits something/someone of your choosing, I won't demand proof that you did it and I won't even hold it against you if say "Hell No!". But if you say "Hell No!" you better go comment your ass off on Sunday...

This isn't a challenge to ring up the most comments per article possible, but it IS an invitation to join in on giving something MORE than just your opinion.

sorry to have to set the standard so High, but I am dead broke, and am a student in Highschool without a job, so even if I did have money, I wouldn't donate it.

That's the spirit! I choose for you any of the "bucket" charities. Whichever you comeacross first. The coin spinning funnel in the front of walmart, the "Please Give" coffee can at 7-11 or the charity box at the drive thru at McDonald's... whatever is most convenient for you! Here's my bonus challenge. If we top 600 for the day, you throw in whatever change you can find in your couch and we'll call it a deal! (I'm dead serious!)

I won't be near a computer for the Super Bowl once the game starts, so I'll trust Manny to count the comments. I will donate an ounce of food for each comment to the Westside Food Bank. I had originally planned on donating $5 to the "Buy Tom Brady some Talent" fund......

That's freekin' awesome! I will be up late enough to gather an "official" count from Head Scout. And of course, we'll verify that number with the accounting department.

(If we get 800 comments, that's 50 pounds of food, you know?)

Maybe we should set up a website for the "Brady Fund". $5 is almost enough to pay for 1/4 of a WR on the Patriots! (Or $4 less than it cost to kick Deion Branch out the door)

I donate to Westside and St Mary's every year through my work. They match our contributions! I give good stuff too! No smack ramen and pumpkin pie mix from Manny. It's all baby food, dry goods and things I like!

Yeah, I'm a hotshot... one week of food donating a year, but I still brag about it! (I've been pretty close to needing some of that food back a few times)

I donate food every Sunday anyway, and it's a writeoff. And explains why I won't be near the computer come game time. May get lucky enough to see the second half.

You are quite the fellow! Helping feed the hungry AND screwing the gov't out of extra tax revenues! That's a double-double, KD! Are you sure you're not a terrorist?

Manny's Soap Box time- Now if we could just band together and get Anheuser-Busch to not make ANY commercials for a year and instead end world hunger for a year, we'd get somewhere!

Do we REALLY need Bud, Bud Light, Bud Dry, Bud Ultra, Bud Fat-Free and Busch commercials?

Don't forget Michelob, Michelob Ultra, Amber Bock, Light, Bacardi and its flavors, O'Douls, the Natty, and nearly 40 other alcoholic and non-alcoholic variations. And then there is Busch Gardens, Busch Entertainment ventures, Sea World, and I'm sure there are some things I'm missing. .02 per comment to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania

The thing is, they could NOT advertise and we won't forget that their product is still there. A couple of years ago I sent a letter to Coca-Cola asking telling them they should NOT advertise for an entire year and instead just give everyone a free Coke (I'd like to buy the world a coke...) Maybe they didn't like my "send me 1% of the savings and we'll call it even"

Tax revenue? I pay taxes on the stuff when I buy it, I only get screwed if I DON'T donate it. And because it's a legitimate business expense, the whole bill gets written off, not just the donation. Win, win for me. Now if only my Super Bowl bets are win, win.

I won't be able to see this thread extravaganser! Unless you start it... Five hours before the game starts. I wish the Super Bowl started about three hours earlier, then I could actually see the game live... 3:30 is too late to stay up (considering I have to get up at 5:30...) :(

It's just comments on the entire site, all articles for the length of the entire day (for some reason the time on the site is PST) So Alex, you can kick off the entire event Sunday morning YOUR time!@!

Oh, I see... Now the only issue is my chronic tightness. I'm trying to think of something to blog on Sunday happening over here - all I can think of is the start of the Six Nations.

I could have easily made it 500, but 430 comments is not bad!
