[edit] Biography

Born on March 5, 1950 in Corona, California, Doug Bird (James Douglas Bird) played for the Kansas City Royals, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox over the course of his 11 year career. Bird broke into the bigs on April 29, 1973 with the Kansas City Royals, and put up a 2.99 ERA in 102.1 innings pitched in 1973, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Doug Bird's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1977, when he posted a 3.88 ERA, won 11 games, notched 14 saves and struck out 83 batters. However, others believe that it was 1973, when he posted a 2.99 ERA, notched 20 saves and struck out 83 batters.
