Dope Ride - Tour de France

What’s up with the Tour de France and doping allegations?

I know these have been around for what seems like forever.  Lance Armstrong was always accused of taking performance enhancing drugs but never tested positive.  I should say allegedly never tested positive as there are still critics out there who contend that he had tested positive on one or more occasions.

And whatever happened to Floyd Landis?  Is he still considered last year’s Tour champion or is that still in limbo?  And now this year’s winner, Alberto Contador, has been mentioned in the Operation Puerto doping investigation.  Allegations, allegations, allegations.  I think the International Cycling Union should take a look at how we do it over here in the States.  Oh wait, never mind; Barry’s still hitting homers.

I don't think Contador was on anything this year. Maybe in the past, who knows. Landis had hip replacement surgery and struck a deal not to race the Tour this year. He will likely be back next year.

There were so many positive tests this year and in years past, even with those leading the Tour, I find it hard to believe that Lance, if he did test positive, would get away with it. It sounds like a great conspiracy, everyone protecting the American hero, but I don't see it being true and I hope it's not true. As much as we love to have our heroes succeed, we are just as fascinated if they fail. Lance's positive test would have been public by now, I would think.

I guess Jose Canseco decided to advise athletes other than baseball players now...

I'm going to enter the Tour next year. I'll win as the only undoped rider. It'll take most of the year to get around France, but I'll be the only one over the finish line...

Considering virtually every good rider immediately before and immediately after Armstrong dominant run has tested positive for doping, I find it impossible to believe that Lance was 100% clean.
