Donald Driver Injures Foot - Updated

by Cheezer

In last night's pre-season action against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Green Bay Packers standout wide receiver Donald Driver suffered a right foot sprain of undetermined severity. When asked about the injury in the post-game press conference, Head Coach Mike McCarthy said, “"Pat (McKenzie, team doctor) didn't seem that it was that (extensive) as far as the location on the foot. He just told me it was a foot sprain. (Driver) is in good spirits. I don't have a diagnosis as far as weeks."

The loss of Driver could be catastrophic as what little offensive success Green Bay had in 2006 can be attributed to Brett Favre and Driver refusing to quit on a 1-4 team.

If Driver is to miss any time, he will probably be replaced in the line-up by rookie James Jones. Jones, from San Jose St., leads all Packer receivers this pre-season with 16 catches for 196 yards and two touchdowns.

UPDATE: Driver is expected to start Sept. 9 versus the Philadelphia Eagles. The Packers will conducting the more scans and watching him, but thing look relatively good.

Here's hoping DD is back soon!! Although Jones looks good so far and then there is Greg Jennings who is promising, but having DD on the field helps Brett a ton...

I want to see James Jones. Rumour has it, he could be the next big thing in terms of WRs. His preseason statistics suggest he was the best Packer. So I'm quite happy to see him get more time. I think Driver, Jones and Jennings are three good quality WRs. I have faith in our recieving talent for now.

James Jones has looked outstanding. Reminds me of Javon Walker (except burlier). Great hands.

What we're missing is if Driver is out for any considerable amount of time Brett Favre will assume that he missed what couldve been a great year if not for injuries; and will come back again for 2008-2009

Hope Driver can come back soon. Jennings and Jones have great skills and have developed good so far, but Driver is the receiver that has that unspoken mental connection with Farve (every good QB needs at least one receiver like that). If he is out for an extended time perhaps I would look to Jennings as most capable of filling that role, but I would be worried. On the other hand this could be a great opportunity for Jones to come out of nowhere and make a huge splash.

Forget Donald Driver. The more pressing question to ponder concerns Aaron Rogers ugly ass beard. Has Rogers succeeded in out-Ortoning Kyle Orton?
