[edit] Summary
The Shula Bowl is a yearly college football game between the Florida Atlantic University Owls and the Florida International University Golden Panthers. The game's winner receives a traveling trophy, named the Don Shula Award, for one year. The game and trophy are named after former Miami Dolphins head coach Don Shula, to whom each school's first head coach has previous ties. FAU's head coach Howard Schnellenberger was a former assistant of Shula in the 1970s and FIU's former head coach Don Strock was a former player under Shula in the 1970s and 1980s.
Currently, FAU leads the all-time series four games to one. FAU won the first three games played in the series, FIU won in 2005, and FAU won the most recent game in 2006.
