In Ireland, the Irish Professional Snooker Championship Final between Ken Doherty (Ireland) and Michael Judge (Ireland) was played.
The Irish Professional Championship is a throwback to the old days of snooker, and the Irish Championship is really the only national championship that has the top players of the nation playing. England, e.g., does not boast such eliteness.
In the 17 frame affair, Doherty was always the likely winner, and ran out 9-4 winner to win the Championship. It will be a good warm up for the Grand Prix in Scotland at the end of October.
The match was preceeded by a minute's silence in memory of Paul Hunter, who died earlier in the week.
The World Number 2 had little trouble in winning the crown, and it could be a sign of things to come for the Irishman.
