Doggie Miller (George Frederick Miller) was born on August 15, 1864 in Brooklyn, New York. He made his Major League debut on May 1, 1884 for the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 1884, his rookie year, he hit .225 with 0 home runs and 0 RBI. Miller played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, St. Louis Perfectos and Louisville Colonels over the course of his 13 year career.

There is some disagreement on what was Doggie Miller's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1894, when he hit for a .339 average and knocked in 86 runs. However, others believe that it was 1892, when he stole 28 bases and knocked in 59 runs.
