Does Tony Soprano Fix NBA Games?

13
Vote

by Tyrone Briggs

The New York Post just broke a story alleging that the FBI has targeted at least one NBA referee in its investigation involving fixing games connected to organized crime.

David Stern, the commissioner of the NBA, has been made aware by the bureau of the investigation and was reported to receive a report on the findings. It appears that this yet to be named referee was gambling on NBA games and heavily involved with bookmakers connected to the mafia.

With all due respect to Murray Weiss who wrote this latest bombshell concerning gambling and professional sports, I defer further reading to his column which is here.

Roger Goodell probably feels a little better about his league image problems considering what now lies ahead for David Stern.

We always knew NBA games were fixed, but now we know who was doing it. Am I the only one that is thinking Joey Crawfor?

This is a bombshell of a story. What other names may come out of this investigation?

Or Joey Crawford for that matter.

I doubt it was him. As some WFAN host just noted, Crawford was suspended at the end of the year -- but the suspension was lifted. Why lift it if he was being suspected of this?

Maybe they didn't know. I just pulled it out my behind. I hope it turns out it is all of them.

Dan, I'm not sure anyone in the front office knew about this at the time...the FBI has ways to keep everything very hush hush...they haven't even given us the name of the official yet

I would actually have more respect for Joey Crawford if they found out he was throwing games for the mob. At least that would explain some of his horrendous bias and terrible calls over the years.

Roger Goodell is in paradise compared to this. Fans aren't going to stop watching football because its players are criminals. Basketball on the other hand, is on the decline. Finally, women's and men's basketball can be equal in terms of popularity!

If it's someone like Joey Crawford or Dick Bavetta, this will become bigger than the Michael Vick incident...speaking of Vick, looks like he's going to be urged to take a leave of absence...if he doesn't, you think Arthur Blank or the NFL will suspend him? I hope so...

I remember hearing a story about an NBA ref who was either infiltrated the mob for the FBI or was a former mobster who left the family. This was 7-9 years ago. Does anyone else remember this?

Vaguely...I think it was that he was a former mobster...I was only like 12 or 13 at the time though...tell you the truth I was worried more about girls and my little league team than the NBA at that point

The rumours around are tha it was a low ranking-younger referee who would have officiated very few important games,it is said the he or she will come clean next week. The mob connection makes this even better,I wasn't ready to let go of the Sopranos just yet
