Does Notre Dame Deserve the Coverage They are Getting

First off I know Notre Dame is probaly the Number 1 fan followed school by far

but with what they have done so far this season, doesn't deserve the attention

the media has been giving them. The media should be giving the air time to other

schools with better records, they deserve it. The Irish have been outscored 133-27

in their first four games, they havent even scored enough points all season to

win one of those games. I find it appaling that every time I try to catch news on

college football they waste time on the Irish when they should be talking about

teams that don't get the air time. I just feel that teams deserve what they deserve

and alot of teams out there get little to no air time because they always have

to say something about the Irish. Don't get me wrong I know Notre Dame is rich

and have a very long and commendable history with football, but not this year,

and I also know I just gave them more, but just wanted to state my opinion on

this matter.

No, they're not, and they haven't been for a long time. There are a lot of Notre Dame fans like there are a lot of Yankees fans: they claim fanship because the team is supposed to win. There are true fans of both teams, but there are also a lot of them that are full of crap and it's not worth ruining national television to cover their every move when so many only care if there's a championship happening.

NBC has a contract with Notre Dame to cover games though 2010. Worth about 9 million, annually. Viewership is at about 3.1 million when the team is winning and 2.6 when they are not. With that kind of numbers, TV execs will keep the team seen even in crappy years.

When was that contract signed? How often are their contracts with NBC renewed? They have had that deal for as long as I can remember, but they haven't been a serious player on the national scene for years, with the possible exception of last year.

Well since the contract expires in 2010, when do you think it will be renewed?

I didn't ask when the next one would be renewed, I asked how often they are renewed. Thanks, though.

NBC is going to cut a deal with NutriSystem. Charlie Weis will inspire millions. And as a sidebar, the nation gets to watch a shitty team. All in all, not bad!

They didn't deserve this much coverage when they were good enough to go to BCS Bowls. So that's a vehement no from me.

Michigan doesn't deserve any coverage either. One crappy historic team, one mediocre historic team, and they may be the most talked about teams in college football.

Hmm... 11 National Championships, and the most wins out of any school in College football history. So, because of one game, their HISTORY went from great to mediocre.

Good point, Rawbeezeitz. There has been a lot more talk about the bad teams than the teams at the top of the polls this year. Hopefully that will change as we get deeper into the season.

Romiezzo, think he means one historic team that is crappy this year and another historic team that is mediocre this year.

Surprising the ND haters aren't rejoicing to watch the Irish get bombed on national television every weekend.

Taytay is right, let me rephrase myself: Michigan is an historic college team, but they're mediocre this year. Michigan is an historic college team, but they're dreadful this year.

Notre Dame and NBC signed their initial deal in 1991. The most recent deal, extended through 2010, was signed on Dec. 18, 2003.

They are Notre Dame, the best college football program in history. They're in a slump.

I totally agree they are in a slump... and they are one of the best college football teams to play college ball, no doubt they will make a comeback, maybe not this year but they will.... but still should that let lesser known teams with better teams this year lose out on the coverage and respect they should get?

it has nothing to do with deserve. it has to do with rating. NBC was smart enough to realize you either hate ND or love them. you want to watch them get killed or you want to see them win.
