[edit] Biography

Born on March 7, 1881 in Syracuse, New York, Doc Scanlan (William Dennis Scanlan) played for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Brooklyn Superbas over the course of his 8 year career. Scanlan broke into the bigs on September 24, 1903 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and put up a 2.64 ERA in 126 innings pitched in 1904, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Doc Scanlan's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1906, when he posted a 3.19 ERA, won 18 games and struck out 120 batters. However, others believe that it was 1905, when he posted a 2.92 ERA, won 14 games and struck out 135 batters.
