Born on December 9, 1948 in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, Doc Medich (George Francis Medich) played for the New York Yankees, Pittsburgh Pirates, Seattle Mariners, Oakland Athletics, New York Mets, Texas Rangers and Milwaukee Brewers over the course of his 11 year career. Medich broke into the bigs on September 5, 1972 with the New York Yankees, and put up a 2.95 ERA in 235 innings pitched in 1973, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Doc Medich's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1974, when he posted a 3.60 ERA, won 19 games and struck out 154 batters. However, others believe that it was 1973, when he posted a 2.95 ERA, won 14 games and struck out 145 batters.
