Do the Mets really need to pick up a starting pitcher?

Rumors have circulated in the past few weeks that the Mets may be interested in Mark Buehrle, who almost certainly will be traded by the Chicago White Sox. Since I heard about the chance, I've been doing some thinking about how much the Mets really need another starting pitcher.
The question really comes down to will Pedro Martinez be ready come August 1st. It's too early for anyone to tell with Pedro. One thing that is certain is that John Maine, Oliver Perez and Tom Glavine (hopefully back to form) are staples. I'm still not sold on Jorge Sosa. I saw him pitch in person against the Cubs and he looked flat out dominant, but his last two starts have left a lot to be desired. Then again he did dominate Detroit, arguably the best team in the AL. Maybe facing the NL will be just what the doctor ordered for Sosa, or maybe he's hit the wall and will revert to the guy who was released by 3 teams before coming to Shea.
The other big question becomes El Duque. Many point to his success out of the pen in 05 with the White Sox as a reason to believe he can do it again but I'm not so sure. In recent outings since coming off the DL, it has taken El Duque a while to get loose which is alarming because he won't have that luxury coming out of the pen in a key situation in the playoffs. If this problem continues, the Mets may have a surplus of starters and a hole in the pen.
As far as Beuhrle is concerned, I hope Omar will pass. At least at the price tag I'm hearing. I don't think this rental (he's stated he wants to sign in the midwest) is worth Fernando, Gomez, Pelfrey, Guerra or even Humber. I'd much rather a trade for an arm out of the pen giving up lower ceiling prospects (Caleb Stewart and Corey Coles types).
Bottom line, I have faith that Pedro will have the flash bulbs popping this October, his first postseason on the hill in a Mets uni and I think the only thing that will come out of these Beuhrle rumors is me learning to spell his last name right.
