Born on October 12, 1890 in Wilsons Mills, North Carolina, Dixie Davis (Frank Talmadge Davis) played for the Cincinnati Reds, Chicago White Sox, Philadelphia Phillies and St. Louis Browns over the course of his 10 year career. Davis broke into the bigs on July 12, 1912 with the Cincinnati Reds, and put up a 3.17 ERA in 269.1 innings pitched in 1920, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Dixie Davis's best season was 1920, when he posted a 3.17 ERA, won 18 games and struck out 85 batters.
