We know that the Seattle Seahawks season was on the line yesterday before Gus Frerotte became Tony Romo in an instant. They are 7-4, the Cardinals crapped the bed by losing to San Fran AT HOME!
Here is the current picture:
1. Seattle Seahawks (7-4, 4-1 in division, face Eagles, Cardinals, Ravens, Panthers, Falcons)
2. Arizona Cardinals (5-6. 2-2 in division, face Browns, Saints, Seahawks, Rams, Falcons)
The 49ers and Rams are irrelevant to the race.
Now, the December 9th meeting between these teams at Qwest Field decides everything. At a minimum, Seattle has a one game lead if they lose to Philly and the Cards beat the Browns. Now, even so, should Seattle beat Arizona based on the previous scenario, the Seahawks would win the tiebreaker over Arizona due to divisional records. But, if Seattle loses to both Philly and Arizona, and the Cards beat Cleveland, Arizona has that division in their hands, and only a collapse would stop them from getting a home playoff game.
Seattle can also clinch the division against the Cards, if they defeat Philly, and Arizona loses to Cleveland, Seattle will clinch the division by beating Arizona and making it a 4 (really 5) game lead on them.
With all those scenarios (and there are many more), it sounds like the Seahawks have control of their own destiny, in which if they collapse, that spells doom for Holmgren and the team.
How do you see this out? Will Seattle win the division? Or will Arizona surprise us all?
