Dinger Doane (Erling Eugene Doane) was born on October 14, 1893 in Natick, Massachusetts. After going to high school at Somerville (MA), Doane attended Tufts University. Doane made his professional debut in the APFA in 1920 with the Cleveland Tigers. He played in the APFA for 2 years, playing for the Cleveland Tigers and New York Giants over the course of his 2 year APFA career.Doane also played in the NFL for 6 years, playing for the Milwaukee Badgers, Detroit Panthers and Providence Steam Roller over the course of his 6 year NFL career.

Most people believe that 1926 was Dinger Doane's best year, as he ran back a fumble for a touchdown.
