Did the Giants really "win" a game this year?

As a New York Jets fan, I just wanted to point out that the New York Giants deserved to win 0 games this year, and the only reason they won 11 is because EVERYTHING fell into place for them this year (had all these things happened to a semi-decent team, they would have been superbowl champs). Let's take a week by week look:

  • Week 2 vs. New Orleans Saints: Giants receive an extra home game and get to play the Saints who are distracted by the hurricane. Giants win.
  • Week 8 vs. Washington Redskins: Giants play a few days after their owner, Wellington Mara, passed away. Who wouldn't be emotionally charged up in such a situation. Had they not been so charged up, they would have played based on their regular abilities, which would have led to a loss (as can be seen Week 16 against the Redskins when they lost 35-20).
  • Week 9 at San Francisco 49ers: 49ers start their 4th quarterback, Cody Pickett (a former rodeo player).
  • Week 10 vs Minnesota Vikings: Daunte Culpepper gets injured week 8 and of course the Giants get to play the Minnesota Vikings two weeks later. (Giants lost anyway).
  • Week 11 and Week 14 vs. Philadelphia Eagles: Of course Donovan McNabb gets injured for the season and the Giants get to play the Eagles twice during the next 4 weeks. Giants win both games. Mike McMahon? You gotta be kidding.
  • Week 12 at Seattle Seahawks: League apologizes to Seattle for TWO blown calls, both of which gave the Giants touchdowns. (Giants lost anyway).

Okay, that wasn't a week by week look, but still, that's a lot of things falling into place for the Giants. Ill give them credit for 1 win (the comeback against the Denver Broncos).

I agree that the Giants had an easy schedule with all injuries accounted for. However, your analysis addresses only offensive injuries to other teams. The Giants had many injuries on defense. Staying healthy is a huge factor in winning in the NFL these days, and the Giants got 11 wins without ever having a first string set of linebackers or DBs on the field. Two games you failed to mention were the week 13 and week 15 poundings of the Cowboys and Chiefs, respectively. Both of those teams came into those games with a ton of momentum and got spamked by the Giants' patchwork defense and bumbling offensive line. The Giants changed the look of the AFC east and NFC west with those games. Did the Giants "win" 11, probably not. But they did win some tough games. They did get embarrassed by the Panthers (aka Steve Smith and 21 anonymous teal-wearing men who are obviously comfortable with their masculinity).

wow, i disagree completely. in fact, if you look at the giants season, we should have won two more games and actually gotten the number one seed in the nfc, which i will tell you that if we had the one seed, we're in the superbowl. the first game i bring up is the cowboys game in dallas. the only reason we lost that game was bc we lost the coin toss and dallas got the ball first. anyone who was watching that game knows that the giants were driving at will on the cowboy's D at the end of the game. we win the coin toss, we win the game. The second game i bring up the vikings game, but if you remember the giants dominated that game and should have won, if not for the defensive, kick return, as well as punt return for tds. we all know that was a fluke and will never happen again. the last game i bring up is the seahawks game. everyone seems to remember the supposed "blown" calls, but everyone seems to forget the one horrible call the refs made. if i remember correctly, it was overtime and shockey caught a pass and took it to the 27 yard line, then he fumbled and it was recovered by the giants at the 20. the refs decided to review the play at which point they overturn the catch and force the giants to kick a fifty yarder instead of a simple 37 yarder. Now that was a game deciding bs call, that not only cost the giants the game, but also cost the giants the tiebreaker with the seahawks. So in the end, my theory is that we got robbed from three games this year that if we win we go to the superbowl, and i dont have to hear any more crap about how good big ben is.

Incredible, a Jets fan gives the Giants no credit, and then a Bills fan agrees. Stop the presses! It makes me happy that both the Jets and the Bills will have so little success in the next few years.

I suppose you're going to argue that the Jets only really "lost" one game this year. Face it, luck and injury factors heavily into sports.

Maybe the St. Louis Cardinals should have half of the games they lose subtracted if Pujols went down in the first game. Maybe we should add a win to the Giants that they might've pulled through if their linebackers weren't all injured. Maybe we should change the Steeler's record last season from 11-5 to 14-2, after all, Roethlisberger was out a few games.

Hell, let's add a few more wins to the Patriots that they would've had if Bruschi was there! How about that, Jets fan?

I thought so.
