Did Pitchers Benefit More From Steriods than Hitters?

by user Charles

Houston Astros OF Lance Berkman suggested that the recent explosion of numbers confirms the fact that pitchers benefited more from steroids than hitters. For Berkman's hypothesis to be true, two things must be facts: (1) Hitters benefited from steriods and (2) steriods helped pitchers recover quicker.

Do you think that pitchers benefited more from steriods than hitters? Did hitters benefit from steriod use? Did pitchers? Discuss.

It also assumes that: No one is taking any steroids this year

If you're a pitcher who throws with strength through his legs, and if he had a significant or even average changeup, he'd have a huge advantage. As the power for the fastball would be through the legs, the changeup would be nigh identifiable. After all, a batter can't focus well on a pitcher's back leg, and even if he could, doing so would mean not watching the ball.

People keep on saying that the sample size is small, but teams keep on producing runs. I think that many mediocre pithcers (especially relievers) used steriods to maintain their position in the major leagues. I think that steriod use has been down the past two years, especially with the potential stigma of the public, see Barry Bonds, and the increased penalties. Its understandable if one might question the deterrent effect of the penalties . . .

pitchers benefited more. That is why I think Roger Clemens will not come back. Because he got his success from using steroids.

It is a tough call! Pitchers or hitters? All the news centered around the hitters but very little about the pitchers! Also Lance Bergman is a hitter!
