Dick Wakefield (Richard Cummings Wakefield) was born on May 6, 1921 in Chicago, Illinois. He made his Major League debut on June 26, 1941 for the Detroit Tigers. In 1943, his rookie year, he hit .316 with 7 home runs and 79 RBI. Wakefield played for the Detroit Tigers for his entire 7 year career.

Most people believe that Dick Wakefield's best season was 1943, when he hit for a .316 average and knocked in 79 runs.
