Born on December 18, 1906 in Veto, Alabama, Dick Coffman (Samuel Richard Coffman) played for the Washington Senators, St. Louis Browns, New York Giants, Boston Braves and Philadelphia Phillies over the course of his 15 year career. Coffman broke into the bigs on April 28, 1927 with the Washington Senators, and put up a 6.09 ERA in 85.2 innings pitched in 1928, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Dick Coffman's best season was 1938, when he posted a 3.48 ERA and notched 12 saves.
