Dice K?

Before the season and even in the first 3 weeks, most of the story coming from Boston was about Daisuke Matsuzaka. The great hype surrounding his every start was insane, if you didn't know when Dice-K was about to start then you must not have watched sports center or baseball tonight ever. Slowly the hyped kept dieing down as Dice-K struggled to get used to the American League and posted a 7-3 record with a 4.83 era in his first 11 starts.

However has anyone seen Dice-K since then?

In his last 6 starts he has a 3-2 record (not great obviously) with a 1.29 era. Now sure its only 6 games that hes done this in, but its still impressive. Looking at the teams he's faced(Oak, Ari, SF, SD, Sea, TB) sure they aren't great teams, but he still as pitched well against all of them. In his two losses during those 6 games hes pitched 6 and 7 innings respectively while only giving up 2 runs in each game. Dice K isn't on the All Star team, and probably doesn't deserve to be with all the other great pitching performances in the league so far by others.

This performance has flown under the radar and Dice-K is no longer an every start major story. However if he keeps up this great pitching run he's currently on, he can get himself into the Cy-Young race, and justify the hype he received at the start of the season when every pitch was watched. Now Dice-K is not under as much pressure and has adjusted to AL baseball; he has settled in and looks to dominate every game he starts.

It's funny how when Dice K didn't do that great, everyone talked about him. Now, for the past month or so, he's done really good and he's hardly getting any recognition, besides Sox fans, and I think even THEY have started to slow down the talk...

Dice K will never be worth the money Red Sox are paying him but he has done even better than the Red Sox thought he would. He has a real shot at 20 wins.

He will definitely have 20 wins with the pitching that he has now and the experience he has in the AL. All he needed was time to readjust and to get to know the players, and where they liked and didn't like pitches, and what to throw at a certain pitch count. But I remember the first couple of months he pitched, when he did good, the offense did bad, when he did bad, the offense did good, which was why he had an ERA of over 4.50 and still got 6-7 wins...

Never worth the Money they are paying him??? Isn't the total like 115 million over 7 years? Now your telling me hes making less than Barry Zito and he be worth that money? A solid Ace to go with Beckett; unless either of them becomes Prior or Wood, the Red Sox now have the best Pitching Duo for the next 5 or 6 years, and if Lester can keep his come back who knows what they can become.

He's making $52 million over 6 years...if you include the $51.11 million for the posting fee, then it's about $103 million all together. He's being paid substantially less than Zito (and not for 7 years, which was the most ridiculous part of Zito's contract), and he actually plays for a contender.

So hes they are paying like 8 million per year on the posting fee. Then using http://mlbco...red-sox.html to look up contracts hes making only 6 million this season; so 14 total. Compared to; Clemens making 20 Mil this year, Pettite 16 Mil, Vazquez 11.5 Mil, Pedro 14 Mil, Wagner 10.5 Mil to name a few. So to say that he's not worth it is insane, hes a solid pitcher for an amount of money that isn't insane.

To be honest with you, he is doing better than I expected him to. Whether this will last for the entire 162 game season, that is a question that is yet to be answered.
