Detroit Red Wings upset by the Edmonton Oilers

by user Madproof9

Quoted from ESPN.com, no full story yet, just the headline.

"Simply, A Shocker. The Wings had Game 6 in hand. Then, the Oilers played the biggest third period of their season. Edmonton scored four third-period goals to beat Detroit 4-3 and upset the top seed in the series, 4-2."

I would just like to say I that I picked Detroit to lose before the finals, and everyone (about 15 "anonymous fanatics," which I hate)called me an idiot. See Detroit Will Not Win the Stanley Cup. Detroit was completely over-rated, and no-one wanted to beleive that. Not even the "experts" at ESPN...

"The Detroit Red Wings are the best team in hockey, and will win the cup no doubt. Red Wings win this series in 4, and the cup in 16." -Jackson

My next prediction...

Colorado makes it to the Stanley Cup finals. Lets hear it "Anonymous Fanatics," start the trash talking now...

uh, there is only one anonymous fanatic on the Detroit will not win the stanley cup page. And you claim "I'll take Detroit losing in the second round, and Calgary winning the Western Conference." But now you are picking Colorado...what gives?

I've written more than one article saying Detroit will lose, including a couple before I signed up for the site, when I was Anonymous. Sorry, I was kind of combining all thec comments from the pages, that's why I didn't link it to a specific page. As for the Avalanche over the Flames now, just the way they have been playing is phenominal. They completely DOMINATED the Stars in every aspect of the game 90% of the time. I was already thinking a Calgary/Colorado Western Conference final, and at the time Calgary was on a roll and Colorado was on a cold streak. Also, they don't show hockey on TV down here during the regular season, except for the Phoenix Coyotes, so I never really had the chance to watch the teams enough to get a grasp on their abilities, I had to go by what the sportswriters (who are biased) and my friends in "hockey-towns" said. After finally being able to watch the playoffs and seeing the way the Avalanche played in the first round, and the way Calgary has been looking against the Ducks, I think Colorado is looking better, and right now has the better team. Even the so called "experts" have to revise their picks every once in a while, I am doing that here.

This is why the NHL playoffs are better than the NBA. These kind of games happen regularly, while games like Kobe against Phoenix are few and far between.

I agree that most Anonymous Fanatics are just slammers. Get a username and back your stuff up already!

Most anonymous fanatics are just slammers, there are a few taht aren't bad, and this guy had some valid points, and did't act like a jerk about 'em, so this guy is cool. I agree with you 100%, NHL playoffs are the best entertainment of any kind April through June. Even my friends who HATE regular season hockey will watch playoff hockey with me. Any game could go any way, and (almost) every game comes down to the wire. Nothing beats it.

I knew you would post an "I told you so" post. I never said the Wings would win it all, but I am surprised they lost in the 1st rd. For good measure though I will point out that I picked the Sens, the Devils, the Sharks, and the Avs.

Haha, gotta gloat! Just kidding, those are good picks, I think it'll be a Sens/Devils in the East too, they are just killing everyone, especially New Jersey, 15 in a row is ridiculous. Ever since the Avs/Devils went to seven games in '01, I was at game 7, I have a great deal of respect for the Devils, they are and have been the most consitant team in the East for 10 years. I would like to see Jersey in the finals again.
