Derrick Gaffney (Derrick Tyrone Gaffney) was born on May 24, 1955 in Jacksonville, Florida. After going to high school at Raines (Jacksonville, FL), Gaffney attended the University of Florida. Gaffney made his professional debut in the NFL in 1978 with the New York Jets. He played for the New York Jets for his entire 8 year career.
Most people believe that 1978 was Derrick Gaffney's best year, as he hauled in 38 receptions and had 691 receiving yards.
