Born on September 23, 1952 in Los Angeles, California, Dennis Lamp (Dennis Patrick Lamp) played for the Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, Oakland Athletics, Boston Red Sox and Pittsburgh Pirates over the course of his 16 year career. Lamp broke into the bigs on August 21, 1977 with the Chicago Cubs, and put up a 3.30 ERA in 223.2 innings pitched in 1978, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Dennis Lamp's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1983, when he posted a 3.71 ERA and notched 15 saves. However, others believe that it was 1985, when he posted a 3.32 ERA, won 11 games and struck out 68 batters.
