Death of a Super-Agent

Today has really been a good day. Another story really got my attention and has had me giddy all day long. Kenny Rogers firing Scott Boras is both awesome from a Tigers fan standpoint and from a sports fan standpoint.
First when looked at through the Tigers fan lens: Boras sucks. He took a guy who said “if I pitch next year I want it to be in Detroit” and turned it into “Highest Bidder Time.” Boras apparently took the Tigers offer and tried shopping it. Tigers didn't like that and Rogers apparently wants to be a Tiger more than he wants to be associated with Boras.
When looked at as a sports fan: it means the day of the super agent is dead. By super agent I don’t just mean an agent with lots of big name clients. That will never die, Jerry Maguire was a movie people. But I mean the agent who becomes as much a story as the player. Think Boras, think Drew Rosenhaus. These asshats are a perfect example of a bad agent. They may make some money, make their clients a lot of money, but they just seem like bad people. Sleazy guys. I personally know a few agents, mostly NHL guys, and they are truly great guys. They care about their players and realize they are not the story.
Hopefully this will end agents opting out of a player’s deal during the World Series, and it might end seeing agents on talk shows. I was never a big Kenny Rogers fan before, but I certainly am now.
