My friends, today, Wednesday, July 12th, marks the deadest day of the 2006 sports year. In America, baseball is still on its All-Star break. The NFL is still a week away from the opening of training camps. Both the NHL and the NBA are in the off-season. And college football are still weeks away from the start of fall practice.
Internationally, things are not much better. The World Cup and Wimbledon both ended this past weekend. Hence, there are no important soccer or tennis matches to discuss. Today is Wednesday, so the weekend golf tournament has yet to start. Auto racing is also a no-go today.
The only major sports event that is occuring today is the Tour De France. However, with the retirement of Lance Armstrong and the elimination of the top contenders because of a major doping scandal two weeks ago, does anyone really care about the Tour?
So today is the deadest day of the year in the sports world. A time where all sports fans should be on vacation!
