Deacon McGuire (James Thomas McGuire) was born on November 18, 1863 in Youngstown, Ohio. He made his Major League debut on June 21, 1884 for the Toledo Maumees. In 1884, his rookie year, he hit .185 with 1 home run and 0 RBI. McGuire played for the Toledo Maumees, Detroit Wolverines, Philadelphia Phillies, Cleveland Spiders, Rochester Hop Bitters, Washington Senators, Brooklyn Superbas, Detroit Tigers, New York Highlanders and Cleveland Naps over the course of his 26 year career.

Most people believe that Deacon McGuire's best season was 1895, when he hit for a .336 average and knocked in 97 runs.
