great deal for both sides. Hope Reyes doesn't mind getting a deal for 40 million dollars less.

Power is just worth more than speed. I was just saying yesterday that the Mets were going to lock both of them up to ensure they were around when the stadium opens. Minaya must have been listening to my conversation!!

I've already said that I think the Reyes signing was stupid. Not that they shouldn't keep the kid, but signing him to a big deal thru years that he should be going through arbitration is stupid. Unless the Mets have no budget, they are maxing out salaries needlessly. I'm not totally sure about Wright's situation, but I would have to imagine that he has several years before he could ever become a free agent. This is not the NFL, often locking up young players so far before you need to hurts you in the end.

I'm pretty sure it's a good move. New York has a large payroll and they just locked up two of the best infielders in the league.

I think you are wrong on this one. The deal sends a great message to the players, on this team and potential free agents. It rewards these guys (who are going to hit a big pay day anyway) for their great play. Finally, it takes the pressure off of them to have to be worried about the big pay day. These guys can just go out and do what they do best now.

I totally disagree. They are getting these guys at a bargain price, especially in the last few years of these deals. They are also telling these two top players that they are the franchise. It sends a message to the fans as well. I have no problem with either deal. In fact, I'm very happy about both.

these are sigings where everyone wins, Wright, Reyes, Mets and the fans. Locking them up long term sends a message to fans, that they will be around for a long time.

I agree. The Mets have nailed down the best left-infield (offensively and defensively) in the NL for half-a-decade. How can that be bad for anyone (Except the other NL East teams)?

Any left of side of an infield with Wrightat 3rd is not the best defensive. That's just a fact.

Gee, 6 years of Wright for barely more than 2 years of Jeter's salary?? Sounds like a good deal for the Mets to me.

That's a great point Manny. Great point. The finances are what makes this deal so good.

The only downside to both of these signings is that young players' numbers tend to drop after signing long term deals. Maybe it's because of the pressure of the big deal, maybe it's because they feel like they can slack off because they already got paid. I don't know which it is, but I know it happens, a lot.

I'm not saying that it's definitly going to happen with these two. I'm saying it's a possibility.
