David Toms

David Wayne Toms (born January 4, 1967) is an American professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour. He has spent a considerable amount of time in the top 10 of the Official World Golf Rankings.

Toms was born in Monroe, Louisiana. He won the 15-17 Boys' event at the 1984 Junior World Golf Championships. He then attended Louisiana State University before joining the PGA Tour in 1992. He has won one major championship, the 2001 PGA Championship, and a total of twelve events on the PGA Tour.

His winning score of 265 (15 under par) in the 2001 PGA Championship is the lowest absolute 72-hole score ever recorded in a major championship (although not the lowest in relation to par; Tiger Woods holds that record).

At the 2005 Memorial Tournament, during the 9th hole of the 4th round, Toms missed a putt. Upon seeing this a fan yelled out "Good Job Freddy", referring to Fred Couples and how missing that putt had helped Couples. Upon hearing this Toms made a gesture which was apparently him scratching his cheek, but it was caught on camera and was really giving the man who had yelled out a middle finger. Toms later denied this, but it was confirmed later with a photo. Although it was thought that Toms would have to pay a fine, the PGA never took action.
