[edit] Biography

David Segui (David Vincent Segui) was born on July 19, 1966 in Kansas City, Kansas. He made his Major League debut on May 8, 1990 for the Baltimore Orioles. In 1991, his rookie year, he hit .278 with 2 home runs and 22 RBI. Segui played for the Baltimore Orioles, New York Mets, Montreal Expos, Seattle Mariners, Toronto Blue Jays, Texas Rangers and Cleveland Indians over the course of his 15 year career.

Most people believe that David Segui's best season was 2000, when he slugged 19 home runs, hit for a .334 average and knocked in 103 runs.

Segui was also one of the players named in baseball's Mitchell Report. According to the report, he befriended former Mets clubhouse attendant Kirk Radomski in 1994. Radomski claimed that in 1995 he gave Segui a bottle of Deca-Durabolin for free and told him to try it. After that, Segui continued to buy steroids from Radomski, always Deca-Durabolin. Radomski produced 6 checks that Segui had written to him for the steroids, and said that he dealt with Segui more than any other player. Segui's name, along with two addresses and several phone numbers, was found in Radomski's seized address book.

When contacted by phone by Mitchell investigators, Segui refused to name any other players, and praised Radomski because the former clubhouse attendant "was doing the players a favor" by providing safe performance-enhancing drugs. Segui went public with his steroid use in June 2006 because he believed his name was redacted from an affadavit in support of a search warrant for Jason Grimsley's property.
