International soccer star David Beckham made his MLS debut for the Los Angeles Galaxy last night in a match against DC United. More than 46,000 people creamed their jeans at the 72nd minute, when Beckham entered the game as a substitute. Fortunately or unfortunately for the sellout crowd, the home team defeated the Galaxy 1-0 despite Beckham's 21 minutes of absolute sexy on the field. After the game, he remarked about how much he enjoyed being out on the pitch and the rainy weather, but did not like losing the game. Despite have missed several matches due to a tender ankle he is still nursing, he expects to play meaningful minutes in upcoming matches against New England and New York. What a week for Washington professional sports. The Nationals increased Barry Bonds home run record by two, and in a far less meaningful sub-plot, split the away series in San Fransisco. The United play host to the biggest soccer debut since Pele and come away with a win, and the Mystics have won four in a row to stake out a spot in the WNBA playoffs. Redskins, Orioles, and Ravens, you got next.
