June 11, 1963: Signed by the Philadelphia Phillies as an amateur free agent.

April 6, 1964: Selected off waivers by the Pittsburgh Pirates from the Philadelphia Phillies.

November 28, 1966: Drafted by the Kansas City Athletics from the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 1966 rule 5 draft.

April 7, 1967: Returned (earlier draft pick) by the Kansas City Athletics to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

October 14, 1968: Drafted by the San Diego Padres from the Pittsburgh Pirates as the 39th pick in the 1968 expansion draft.

December 3, 1971: Traded by the San Diego Padres to the Houston Astros for Derrel Thomas, Bill Greif, and Mark Schaeffer.

December 6, 1975: Traded by the Houston Astros with Jim Crawford and Milt May to the Detroit Tigers for Leon Roberts, Terry Humphrey, Gene Pentz, and Mark Lemongello.

July 30, 1977: Purchased by the Chicago Cubs from the Detroit Tigers.
