Born on December 13, 1947 in Seattle, Washington, Dave Hamilton (David Edward Hamilton) played for the Oakland Athletics, Chicago White Sox, St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates over the course of his 9 year career. Hamilton broke into the bigs on May 29, 1972 with the Oakland Athletics, and put up a 2.93 ERA in 101.1 innings pitched in 1972, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Dave Hamilton's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1976, when he posted a 3.59 ERA, notched 10 saves and struck out 62 batters. However, others believe that it was 1975, when he posted a 3.25 ERA and struck out 71 batters.
