Danica Patrick Thinking about NASCAR

10
Vote

IRL superstar Danica Patrick is exploring the possibility of moving to the NASCAR circuit for the 2007 season, according to sources in the Orlando Sentinel.

T.J. Patrick, who is Danica’s father and manager, has confirmed that he has been in exploratory talks with various NASCAR teams looking into the possibility of moving his daughter to the more popular circuit. T.J. was at the Chicagoland Speedway this past weekend while the NASCAR circuit was in town looking into the possibilities. According to Patrick a move to NASCAR was an idea they have always had for Danica and would be a smart move for her career.

Danica Patrick’s contract with Rahal-Letterman Racing team ends in at the end of the current IRL season, so a move to the closed wheel circuit could come sooner than later.

According to sources at the Sentinel Bev and T.J. Patrick were seen as guest and talk talking to members of the Roush Racing team. While co-team owner Bobby Rahal declined comments about the Patrick’s visit, it is obvious that the wheels are beginning to churn.

Has she won a race yet? Come on, all of this hype for what? Because she is a girl? Win something already. . . .

In her defense, she has yet to win because of the failures of her team and not what she has done, Rahal-Lettermen racing has fallen to the back of the pack in terms of technology, and she stands no chance as a result.

Excuses. The Phillies haven't won because of injuries. Win or stop the hype.

Technology is not an excuse in modern racing. This happened a couple years ago in the IRL when Honda and Toyota came over to do engines and the Chevrolets were nearly 30 horsepower behind. Everyone on Chevy teams suffered. Rahal-Letterman were using Panoz chassis as opposed to the Dallaras everyone else was using, but they recently switched over.

I agree, she needs to win, and win soon. But its like asking the Royals to win the division.

Chris Amon went over a hundred F1 races without winning one. Yet he was a wanted man, and arguably the unluckiest man in history. He could have won at least five races had something uncontrollable not happened, such as a mechanical failure, it started to rain just after a pit stop, so he had to make another one a lap later for wet tyres, stuff like that. Winning isn't everything, as Amon proved. Everyone would agree that racing would be worse if Miss Patrick wasn't in the field.

Maybe for Danica if she does well, but not for Montoya (Those F1 guys REALLY make money).

What do they make for a win in F1?

Definitely. The only people in F1 that are poor are the circuit owners, who have to pay £9 million ($18 million) to host a race each year...

I don't think they make money per win - they are part of a team and are contracted to race for them. I think the money goes to the winning constructor (and perhaps a % goes to the driver from there), but I may be wrong. I knowa decent F1 driver will make £10 million per year ($20 million).

Right now the leading money winner in NASCAR has won $5 million and that's after something like 20 races. $20 million is incredible.

She hasn't even one a race yet. Who says she'll win in the much more competetive nascar?

Perhaps she'll have a stronger car. In most motor sport, if you have a poor car, you're nobody. In the right car, you're a genius.

It's different in NASCAR, most of the cars run the same type of engine, with the same exact parts, and nothing is really different. What makes them faster is the setup on them (i.e. wedge, tire pressure, etc.), but the parts that are put into the car are almost all the same on every car.

The parts are pretty much the same on an F1 car, they're just used differently, and the better teams are generally the ones that have the money to go around testing everything more. Whereas the poorer teams spend less on testing. If one team pioneers an idea, rest assured the rest of the paddock will use it within a few weeks. It happened when Ferrari invented flexi-wings. Two weeks later, at the next race, the whole field had them.

Having her in Nascar would do a lot for the sport actually. Who gave a crap about f1 until danika was in it? I know I didn't...I don't care about nascar now and I probably still wouldn't care about it if she was in it, I just think it would bring in some new viewers particularly in the north.

Danica isn't in F1... never has been... (Indy 500 is not F1, contrary to what some people think (well, since 1960)).

It was interesting - it was dropped in 1960 because no Europeans entered, so they set up their own USGP at Watkins Glen. So after dropping it because no Europeans bothered to enter, suddenly in the 60s Europeans started to enter... but it has never been on the calendar since.

I might add, mainly because of clashes with other GPs in Europe. I know that once the Dutch GP was the same day as the Indy 500.

I kinda wish F1 would come to Road America, but I'm not sure if two races in the US would fly.

I really like Road America (I drove it on TOCA 2). Actually there may be two USGPs next year. They are thinking of going to Laguna Seca, which is made great thanks to "The Corkscrew". They will call it the United States Grand Prix (West). The Us once had three Grands Prix in one year. (The third was the United States Grand Prix (East)). I think there should be two at Laguna Seca and Elkart Lake, but I'm not sure the latter has sufficient facilites. I don't like Indianapolis. Great fans, but a poor track. Also, the place looks empty even though there are 120,000 there. At least the others will look full.

I think the problem with RA is that they've had financial troubles and have barely been able to be a mainstay with the Champ Car series, much less make a run at an F1 event.

Didn't this story come up about a month ago? Here's an article from the DMN back in June where Danica talks about NASCAR. Danica makes this move for one reason only... MONEY. The interesting thing is, NASCAR doesn't need Danica, it's popularity has never been better, but the IRL does. With the exception of the Indy 500, no one watches IRL or CART for that matter.

How about the Tour de France, Lord knows they need someone to hype up that event. By the way, do we have a name of the person in the lead right now?
