Dan Patrick's MLB Home Field Advantage Solution

9
Vote

by user Michalski81

i don't know if this is really an opinion and since I am fairly new to AGM, I am not even sure if I am doing this right.

But yesterday, July 11, I was listening to the Dan Patrick Show and he said coming up after commercial he was going to give his solution to fixing the home-field advantage for MLB.

Did anyone hear it and was a realistic solution? I missed it but I would like to know what it was.

Thanks!

I love his show and I missed it too (damned lunches are never long enough) - you can get the old replays of his show on espnradio.com

Eevrybody keeps saying league with best interleague record should get Home Field... what happens if the leagues tie? Best record should get Home Field, it just amkes sense.

should be the same as basketball. whoever has the better record gets HFA. If the two world series teams have the same reg season record, then which ever league had the better interleague numbers should get HFA. If that is also a tie, then the universe will implode upon itself.

doing the best record and having it a tie and going to the "next" tie-breaker...inter-league record.....GET RID OF INTERLEAGUE ALREADY. there was a mystic back when i was younger because the AL-NL never played during the season almost like you don't know nothing about the other team when they face in the World Series, bring that back don't mix league games until the World series.

too late to go back now... unless you want no DH, taller mounds, no batting helmets and horsehide balls

I don't really see what is wrong with the old way, just alternating. The best record would indicate that the team possibly played weaker competition, and not necessarily deserve the home field advantage. I don't think it should be on a whole league basis though, as in AL vs NL interleague records, that doesn't seem quite right, it could cause a better team to lose home field because the Royals or the Pirates give up early on a season. I'm in faovr of alternating, its easy.

doesn't every other sport do it best record?

well every other sport would be NHL & NBA because NFL is actually a Neutral site game.Hockey is the best record,NBA not sure. My friend brought this up to me the other day that doing homefield as best record gives teams a reason to play a season fully and not coast down the stretch.just say...

Mets and white sox with 20 games to go are 95-47 but the mets lead in the NL is 18 games and the white sox is 4 even though the mets have a comfortable lead and could go .500 the final 20 games and still be a winner by over 10 games they would have to play it out because the Wsox who are only 4 games up are still playing for their division and/or playoff lives. i can deal with alternating but i think best record would be better.and did anyone see the play where hoffman had the ball blasted right back at him? that adds to the discussion on a different post about injuries during the all-star game.

They couldn't coast. The records would still determine where each league championship game is played, a crucial factor, so coasting wouldn't actually work. And each division winners usually have records similar to eachother, so they have to play out the season to get that advantage in the ALCS/NLCS.

The Super Bowl works at a neutral venue because it is one game. A seven-game series on a tour of the country wouldn't work too well.
