Dan Brouthers (Dennis Joseph Brouthers) was born on May 8, 1858 in Sylvan Lake, New York. He made his Major League debut on June 23, 1879 for the Troy Trojans. In 1879, his rookie year, he hit .274 with 4 home runs and 17 RBI. Brouthers played for the Troy Trojans, Buffalo Bisons, Detroit Wolverines, Boston Beaneaters, Boston Reds, Brooklyn Bridegrooms, Baltimore Orioles, Louisville Colonels, Philadelphia Phillies and New York Giants over the course of his 19 year career.

Most people believe that Dan Brouthers's best season was 1894, when he stole 38 bases, hit for a .347 average and knocked in 128 runs.
