Born on January 7, 1865 in Oswego, New York, Dad Clarke (William H. Clarke) played for the Chicago White Stockings, Columbus Colts, New York Giants and Louisville Colonels over the course of his 7 year career. Clarke broke into the bigs on April 23, 1888 with the Chicago White Stockings, and put up a 4.93 ERA in 84 innings pitched in 1894, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Dad Clarke's best season was 1895, when he posted a 3.39 ERA, won 18 games and struck out 67 batters.
